Overview

A lip lift shortens the distance between the nose and the upper lip to show a little more of the lip's red border and a more youthful profile. Dr. Hermes makes a very fine incision hidden at the base of the nose for a subtle result. Unlike fillers, it aims to change proportion rather than only volume.

Dr. Hermes's approach

Dr. Hermes designs a fine incision right at the base of the nose, removes a measured strip of skin, and gently raises the upper lip. He calculates precisely to keep a natural smile and avoid excess. His human, conservative approach prioritizes harmony and safety, supporting you throughout recovery.

Risks and honesty

Risks include swelling, bruising, infection, minor asymmetry, or temporary changes in lip sensation. The scar sits at the base of the nose and, although usually discreet, in some people it takes longer to fade. Dr. Hermes reduces these risks with careful technique, though no procedure is free of risk and results vary.

Are you a good candidate?

Good candidates are people with a long space between the nose and the lip, or little visible lip when smiling, who want a natural change. It is often preferred when proportion is the goal rather than volume. Dr. Hermes assesses your facial measurements in consultation to confirm whether it is appropriate for you.

Recovery, step by step

  1. 01

    First 2-3 days

Swelling of the upper lip and the area under the nose, normal at this stage, with possible mild bruising. It helps to rest, apply cold as advised, and avoid wide lip movements. A soft diet helps the first days.

  2. 02

    Days 4-7

Swelling starts to ease and sutures are usually removed at this stage. Many people resume their usual routine. The lip still looks somewhat raised due to swelling, which is temporary.

  3. 03

    Week 2-4

Residual swelling decreases and the lip proportion begins to look natural. You can resume light exercise as advised. The scar at the base of the nose begins to lighten.

  4. 04

    Month 2-3

The result settles as swelling resolves. The upper lip looks slightly more visible and proportionate, with a natural smile. The scar keeps fading over several months, with follow-up from Dr. Hermes.

Frequently asked

Fillers add volume temporarily, while a lip lift changes proportion by shortening the space between the nose and the lip, showing a bit more red border. It is a surgical and more lasting change. Dr. Hermes guides you on which fits your goal better.

The incision is hidden in the fold at the base of the nose, so it usually stays discreet. In most people it fades well over time, though in some it takes a bit longer. Care and sun protection help it improve.

That is Dr. Hermes's priority, which is why he is conservative with the amount of skin he adjusts. The goal is a slightly more visible lip and a smile that still looks like yours, without exaggeration. Each case is different and results vary.
