Overview

A neck lift repositions tissue and, when needed, adjusts muscle and fat to define the cervical contour and the jawline. Dr. Hermes tailors the technique to your anatomy for a firmer, natural profile. It is ideal when the neck shows age more than the face.

Dr. Hermes's approach

Dr. Hermes uses discreet incisions behind the ear and sometimes a small one under the chin to reposition tissue and tighten the platysma muscle when needed. If there is localized fat, he treats it gently to refine the contour. His human, safety-first approach aims for a defined yet natural neck, caring for you at every stage.

Risks and honesty

Risks include hematoma, seroma, infection, minor asymmetry, or temporary changes in the neck skin sensation. In uncommon cases there can be prolonged tightness or temporary nerve weakness. Dr. Hermes reduces these risks with meticulous technique and follow-up, though no procedure is free of risk and results vary.

Are you a good candidate?

Good candidates have neck sagging, visible muscle bands, or loss of definition in the jawline. It usually benefits people who feel their neck does not match the rest of their face. Good overall health and some skin elasticity help, which Dr. Hermes assesses in consultation.

Recovery, step by step

  1. 01

    First 3-5 days

Swelling and bruising on the neck and under the chin, normal at this stage. You will likely wear a compression band, and it helps to rest with your head elevated. Avoid abrupt neck movements and exertion.

  2. 02

    Week 1-2

Swelling gradually eases and bruising improves. Sutures are usually removed at this stage. Many people resume light activities, still avoiding exercise and direct sun.

  3. 03

    Week 3-6

The neck contour starts to define as swelling decreases. You can resume light physical activity as advised. Some tightness may still be felt, which is a normal part of recovery.

  4. 04

    Month 2-3

The result settles as residual swelling resolves. You can resume moderate exercise and sun exposure with protection. Scars fade gradually over several months, with follow-up from Dr. Hermes.

Frequently asked

A neck lift focuses on the cervical contour and jawline, while a facelift also works the cheeks and lower face. Sometimes they are performed together for a more harmonious result. Dr. Hermes guides you in consultation on what your case needs.

The incisions are usually placed behind the ear and, if needed, a small one under the chin, in discreet areas. Over time they tend to fade and become hard to see. Sun protection and skin care help them improve.

Results are usually long-lasting, although aging continues its natural course. Maintaining a stable weight and caring for your skin helps preserve the contour longer. Each case is different and results vary.
