Overview
Gynecomastia is the development of breast tissue in men, more common than many people think. Surgical reduction removes the gland and excess tissue to restore a flat, masculine pectoral contour. Dr. Hermes combines liposuction and excision according to each case, aiming for minimal scars and a discreet result that looks natural.
Dr. Hermes's approach
Dr. Hermes adapts the technique to the type of gynecomastia. When fatty tissue predominates, he uses liposuction through small, discreet incisions. If there is firm glandular tissue, he makes a discreet incision at the areola border to remove it, leaving a minimal scar. His humanistic approach shows in the detail: preserving the masculine shape of the chest and supporting you through every step of recovery.
Risks and honesty
Like all surgery, there are risks: mild asymmetry, temporary changes in nipple sensation, irregular contour, or over-correction. Seromas (fluid buildup) or infection can occur in uncommon cases. Scars tend to be discreet, but healing varies from person to person. Anesthetic risks are low in healthy patients. Results vary from case to case.
Are you a good candidate?
It is for men with breast development that causes physical or emotional discomfort, or that limits activities like sports or going shirtless. Ideally the growth has stabilized, with good general health and a relatively stable weight. Realistic expectations about scars and outcome matter; Dr. Hermes discusses this with you calmly.

Ready to take the first step?Recovery, step by step
- 01
First 3-5 days
Mild to moderate discomfort, managed with prescribed medication. You will wear a compression garment to reduce swelling and support healing. Rest, no lifting or exercise. Keeping the head and torso slightly elevated helps you rest.
- 02
Week 1-2
Swelling usually peaks around day 5-7 and then begins to subside. You continue with the compression garment. Light tasks at home are fine. Dr. Hermes reviews your progress in close follow-ups.
- 03
Week 3-4
Swelling decreases noticeably and the preliminary result becomes visible. You can return to non-strenuous work. Avoid contact exercise and heavy lifting. Nighttime compression continues if comfortable.
- 04
Month 2 and beyond
The result stabilizes. Gradual return to exercise and sports after 4-6 weeks, depending on your progress. Scars fade over time and tend to stay discreet under clothing. You can train your chest with normal workouts once Dr. Hermes clears you.

Frequently asked
If gynecomastia is related to certain medications or to being overweight, medical or lifestyle changes can sometimes improve it. However, when established glandular tissue is present, surgery is usually the most effective way to remove it. Dr. Hermes evaluates your case and honestly discusses every alternative with you.
Once the glandular tissue is removed, that tissue does not grow back. If you gain a lot of weight or your hormones change due to medications, substances, or aging, fat can accumulate again. Maintaining a stable weight and avoiding known causes helps preserve the result. Each case is different.
Walking and light cardio are usually possible after 3-4 weeks. Weightlifting and resistance exercise require waiting around 6-8 weeks to avoid complications. Listen to your body: if there is pain or swelling, rest. Dr. Hermes will give you guidelines based on your progress.
